About CPM

Understanding materials is how we change what comes next.

Our mission

Discovery across boundaries.

Established in 1989, the Centre for the Physics of Materials is an official McGill research unit which connects and supports researchers who are interested in materials at McGill. We build a community that encourages collaboration and exchange of ideas and we do so through shared facilities, the support of our technicians and a variety of activities like the weekly CPM seminars, the annual CPM day and social events organized by our dedicated student committee.

With financial support from RQMP, the faculty of science and McGill university we push the envelope of knowledge in different directions like quantum materials, soft condensed matter, strongly interacting matter and quantum information using tools like transport, spectroscopy, scanning probes, nano-fabrication, cryogenics and more. We are always looking for new collaborations and new trainees - come join us!

CPM Student Committee

Our dedicated student committee.

The CPM student committee is a vibrant group of trainees dedicated to enhancing the academic and social experience of all students within the Centre for the Physics of Materials.

Throughout the year, the committee organizes a variety of activities including the weekly CPM seminars, the annual CPM day, and numerous social events. These initiatives are essential in building a community that encourages collaboration and the exchange of ideas among researchers.
